Liverpool have given up on signing Naby Keita this summer

Keita is a top target for Liverpool this summer.

But getting a deal done has proven tricky.

RB Leipzig have insisted Keita is going nowhere and have already rejected two bids for the Guinea international from the Reds.

Keita is understood to have a £48m release clause in his Leipzig contract which can be activated next summer.

And Liverpool legend Carragher expects Klopp to wait to get his man rather than drafting in an alternative option.

“Regarding Keita, I don’t think that Klopp will go out and buy another midfielder,” he told 5times.co.uk.

“I think he would be willing to wait until next season as supposedly Keita has a buyout clause.”

Carragher added: “Nevertheless, if we go into the new season with what we’ve got now, I think there will be a lot of trepidation amongst the Liverpool fans.

“I’m sure the club are working 24/7 behind the scenes to bring players in, not only to keep the supporters happy, but to strengthen the squad for the big season ahead.”
