The Hammers were playing Altona 93 in the pre-season game in Germany today.
Altona took the lead before West Ham struck back almost immediately through Antonio Martinez.
But Slaven Bilic’s side were trailing again when Dennis Thiesen pinged a 20-yard shot home in the 41st minute.
Worse was to come though as Winston Reid was adjudged to have committed a foul as a corner came into the Altona box.
The player, already on a yellow from earlier in the match, then reportedly sarcastically clapped the referee for his decision.
Video shows the ref giving Reid his marching orders after he received a second yellow for dissent.
West Ham players surround the official to ask why the defender was shown red on the stroke of half-time.
According to reports, the Altona players asked to play with 10 men in the second half level things up but were refused by the referee.
An equally eventful second-half saw Andre Ayew level for West Ham, only for Altona to take the lead again.
New signing Javier Hernandez – better known as Chicharito – was then introduced before a cross was turned into the Altona net by one of their own players with the Mexican lurking in the box.
The game finally ended 3-3.
Earlier Chicharito scored a wonder goal in training that got fans very excited about the forthcoming season.
