That's according to NBC Sports reporter Pilib De Brun.

He says the Real Madrid star must threaten to go on strike in order to force a transfer.

De Brun also claims Matic made a similar threat to Chelsea to ensure he secured a dream move to Old Trafford.

United have been linked with Bale for years and tried to buy him when he left Tottenham for Real in 2013.

Their interest is strong again this summer but the Red Devils know it will take some effort from the player to get the deal done.

De Brun tweeted: "Matic told Chelsea he'd refuse to play & go public if he wasn't allowed to leave.

"Utd telling Bale to ask to leave & they'll move for him."

Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol thinks United could turn into Champions League contenders if they can sign the Welshman.

He said: “I think they’re Premier League contenders.

"I’m not so sure they would straight away be Champions League contenders but I think certainly with Bale then I think you’re looking at guaranteed goals which is my problem with United’s attack right now.

“[Romelu] Lukaku scored with Everton. Playing for Everton and playing or Manchester United are two different things.”
