The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at Huddersfield, playing a vital role in their promotion campaign into the Premier League.
Now back at Anfield, Ward finds himself behind Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius in Jurgen Klopp’s pecking order.
He was given a rare start against Atletico in the Audi Cup this evening – and made it count.
Midway through the first half, a dangerous cross was fizzed into Liverpool’s box which was immediately struck first time by striker Angel Correa.
The ball looked destined to hit the back of the net, especially given the fact it hit rebounded off the ground before heading on goal.
But Ward had other ideas, showing superhuman reflexes to tip the ball onto the crossbar.
Unfortunately for the keeper, it proved fruitless as the rebound fell kindly to Atletico’s Keidi Bare who managed to fire home.
Fans were quick to praise Ward for the stunning save.
