Pogba was named in the starting XI for Jose Mourinho as he went in search of his fourth trophy in little over 12 months at Old Trafford.

But United were unable to upset the odds against Champions League winners Real Madrid as Romelu Lukaku's goal was canceled out by strikes from Casemiro and Isco.

With Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera acting as the anchor to United's midfield, Pogba was given a licence to get forward and link up with the attack.

But Liverpool legend Gerrard was far from impressed with the France International's first-half performance.

"I think he's been poor," Gerrard said of Pogba on BT Sport at half time.

"If we're being brutally honest I think his decision making out there in the first half hasn't been good.

"Here he does well cutting in but he has to slide (Henrikh) Mkhiatryan in for a chance on goal.

Steven Gerrard accused Paul Pogba of being selfish in Man Utd's loss to Real Madrid

"Here he gambles to come out and header the ball away, gets underneath it, it could have been another goal for Real Madrid.

"Here he is a bit selfish, goes for the shot when I think he could have played it to Mkhitaryan again.

"I think he's been a bit individual out there rather than thinking of his team-mates in the first 45."
