The West Ham striker is set to start against his old club at Old Trafford this Sunday after joining the Hammers from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

But he admits he would find it hard to celebrate if he hits the target against the club where he spent five years of his career.

Hernandez said: “I don’t know if I will celebrate. I can’t imagine the emotion I will have. Probably I cannot celebrate in front of my old club and my old fans.

“But it will be my first goal for my new club and my new fans too so I am not thinking about celebrations.

“I just want to have some minutes on the pitch, try to score a goal and help my new team to score a goal.”

Hernandez was sold to Leverkusen by Louis Van Gaal in August 2015, but claims he has no regrets about leaving Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson has since said he would never have sold the Mexican, and Hernandez said: “I appreciate what he said. But now I am a Hammer.

“Regrets? No I never have regrets. Everything in life gives you a chance to learn.

“I am very happy, very glad to come back to the Premier League. It was my first four years in Europe here.

“The main thing is to get a very good, very important result. I feel I’m ready. I’m 100 per cent fit. If the manager decides I will start I will be delighted.

“We have to be aiming for the European spots. That has to be our aim this season.”
