Manchester United have been after the winger all summer with reports suggesting a deal was close before United set off for their pre-season tour of China.

But Inter held firm on their stance with manager Luciano Spalletti ruling out Perisic leaving the club.

United are understood to be willing to pay £44m for the Croatia international but it is still £4m short of Inter's demands.

And Sky Sports claim United don't want to meet the £48m Inter want for Perisic and rumours are likely to continue for the rest of the summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old is reportedly keen on pushing through a move to Old Trafford with Mourinho admitting last month he is desperate to bring in one more wide player.

But Inter boss Spalletti admits Inter are unlikely to do business so close to the end of the window because they would find it hard to bring in a replacement.

“There has been no more significant contact in the last few weeks,” Spalletti said.

“As far as I’m concerned there’s nothing more to say.”

“The more days that go by, the more difficult it becomes for us to replace him and therefore I would strongly oppose his departure."

Mourinho admitted earlier this week that he could be tempted into making a move for Gareth Bale if he didn't start for Real Madrid in the Super Cup against United.

But the Wales international was named in the starting line-up and insisted after the game he has no intention of leaving the Bernabeu.
