14:50pm: Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed he wants one more new signing this summer.

He said: "I’m happy with the effort the club did, I'm happy that the club managed to do 75 per cent of the work before the Premier League starts.

"And if, until 31 August, the remaining 25 per cent don’t arrive, I will not moan.

"I will just go with everything I have to try to win every match we play."

The Special One added: "We got a central defender that can play in many other positions, which is important. We got a centre midfielder, we got a striker.

"Obviously [we wanted] a player for another position playing from the sides, but we have players and if you cannot strengthen the team in these areas, we have people that we trust and we go for it."

14:15pm: Jose Mourinho has confirmed Manchester United are in talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic about signing for the second part of the season.

"You know, he's injured, he needs time to recover," the United boss said. "He's not ready to play tomorrow.

"It's not something urgent, it's nothing that you are desperate to have it done or not done.

"I just think that he was very clear by showing that what he did last year was not enough for him. He thinks he can do more.

"He wants more at football's highest level, so we are having conversations and we are discussing the possibility of him staying with us for the second part of the season."

13:45pm: Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino says he has forgiven Danny Rose for his shock comments in the press yesterday.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's clash with Newcastle, Pochettino said: "It was good for him to apologise. Now we move on.

"I haven't spoken to him today because he's injured and is recovering from his problems.

"We have different timings and dynamics at the training ground. I'm sure I'll see him tomorrow.

"The player is calm and were calm. I forgive him and now we move on."

13:10pm: Philippe Coutinho update!

The 25-year-old has hit out at Liverpool for failing to handle his transfer situation in an amicable way.

A Coutinho family member told Sky Sports: “Philippe has tried very hard to find an amicable solution to this situation but to no avail.

“He has tremendous love for the club and its fans.

“But like Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez have pointed out in the past, Liverpool does not let its players leave on amicable terms.”

12:40pm: More news about Philippe Coutinho and Liverpool have denied reports that he has handed in a transfer request.

The club are adamant he will not be leaving for Barcelona this summer.

The Reds have already rejected a bid of £90m from the La Liga giants and will continue to rebuff any further offers.

A statement from Rose via his agency said: "Having had time to consider my actions, I acknowledge now that the timing and manner of what I said was ill-judged.

"My words were not meant to offend and for that I would like to apologise to the chairman, manager, my team mates and the fans.

"I’d also like to wish the lads good luck ahead of Sunday’s game against Newcastle."

11:40am: Chelsea and Tottenham still believe they can land Everton ace Ross Barkley for £25m this summer.

Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol said: “[Barkley] is refusing to sign a new deal, Chelsea and Spurs are interested.

“They think they can get him for around £25m, Everton think he’s worth double that at £50m.

“Barkley is back training and Ronald Koeman says it is still possible that he could be an Everton player this season.”

11:10am: Garth Crooks has slammed Chelsea boss Antonio Conte for his treatment of Diego Costa.

He said: "What has Antonio Conte gone and done?

"Never tell your top goal scorer his services are no longer required until you have signed and delivered his replacement.

"Having missed out on Romelu Lukaku, and told Costa in a text that he was no longer needed at the club, the Italian coach lost two players at a stroke in the most monumental managerial gaffe I've seen in years.

"I’ve seen managers sacked for less."

10:45am: Paul Merson insists Arsenal would have no problem with selling Alexis Sanchez to Paris St-Germain.

Merson told Sky Sports: "Arsenal would let Sanchez go to PSG tomorrow. The biggest worry is Manchester City and that's the problem.

"If he went to City there would be uproar from the Arsenal fans. They would look at it and ask why the club are selling him to a Premier League rival.

"If he goes to PSG he's out of sight, out of mind. He's not going to come back and hurt you.

"However, it's the Man City situation that's the concern and we've seen it all before with Robin van Persie's move to Manchester United."

10.10am: Liverpool's owners FSG have issued a statement insisting Philippe Coutinho will not be sold.

"We wish to offer clarity as regards our position on a possible transfer of Philippe Coutinho," they wrote on the club's website.

"The club’s definitive stance is that no offers for Philippe will be considered and he will remain a member of Liverpool Football Club when the summer window closes."

10:00am: Liverpool target Virgil van Dijk, who has handed in a transfer request at Southampton, will not face Swansea tomorrow due to a ‘virus’.

Speaking about the defender, Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino said: "My reaction is the same that I said three weeks ago. We are expecting him to come back to train with us because we need the player.

"Hopefully he can change his point of view. The club was clear from the beginning with the player. We cannot control every single situation. Virgil is part of our club. He has a contract but we are now waiting."

Asked if Van Dijk will face Swansea, Pellegrino added: "No, no, because this week he was with some trouble with a virus. He couldn't train the last two days."

9:30am: Ronald Koeman has warned Tottenham they won’t get Ross Barkley on the cheap.

Asked if the England ace could be sold for less than their £50m asking price, the Everton boss said: "No, of course not.

"We have the experience of what we need to pay for players who came here and had one year of contract.

"If there is a club thinking, ‘We can wait until the last day and we put some money on the table and we get Ross Barkley’, sorry, you do not get Ross Barkley."

9:00am: Barcelona can't afford to get Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool if they sign Ousmane Dembele.

The Spanish giants are keen on both players but journalist Graham Hunter says Barca can only sign one.

"I do not believe they can afford Coutinho and Dembele,” he told Radio 5 Live.

"Dembele is very, very important. If they sign him and Liverpool say they don’t want to sell, I don’t think there’s the money at Barcelona to buy Coutinho too."

8:35am: Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare is confident of keeping all the players he wants in his squad but is wary of approaches from rivals as the transfer window enters its final weeks.

"Every manager's nightmare is to lose players in the last 24 hours or on the day of the window [closing] and you can't get replacements in," Shakespeare said.

"You know when you have good players that there might be interest from other clubs but I wouldn't sleep at night if all the scenarios that you (the media) put to me happened.

"But we are a club who don't need to sell, which is vitally important. We don't want to be a selling club. I think we've got owners who want to keep their best players... I think we have those assurances so I haven't got to worry about that."

8:20am: Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on Stoke winger Ramadan Sobhi.

The Egypt international arrived at the bet365 Stadium from Al Ahly in his homeland in a £5m deal 12 months ago.

And according to The Sun, United boss Jose Mourinho has monitored Sobhi ever since he moved to England.

The 20-year-old has opted to commit his long-term future to Stoke though, signing a new five-year deal.

8:00am: Antonio Conte’s reputation will be on the line if Alvaro Morata fails to replace Diego Costa this season.

That’s according to Jamie Redknapp, who believes: "It shows what a nuisance Diego Costa must have been for Antonio Conte to want rid of him but I still think freezing out Chelsea’s top scorer is a massive gamble.

"Morata scored 15 La Liga goals in 14 starts for Real Madrid last season but will be under enormous pressure.

"If he does not succeed, it will be Conte’s reputation on the line."

7:30am: Paul Clement insists Fernando Llorente will be staying at Swansea despite Chelsea’s ongoing interest in the striker.

"[Llorente] has got a year to go on his deal and we'd like him to stay for this year and longer," Clement said.

"I'm confident he will because of the conversations I've had with Fernando.

"He's happy here, he likes the work we're doing, and he likes the way we play.

"He's a really good player and it's a shame with the injury he got in the summer.

"It's a freak one and he did finish off the season strongly. His goals were vital and we want to have him as an option."

7:00am: Paris St-Germain may not be done with their big spending just yet.

The Ligue 1 club have already signed Neymar for a world-record fee of £200m.

But they are reportedly on the verge of adding Kylian Mbappe to their squad.

The Sun claims the 18-year-old Monaco forward will cost PSG £160m after the player's father persuaded him to leave now instead of staying with the French champions for another 12 months.

2.00am: Frank Lampard has claimed Chelsea might have been forced to sell Nemanja Matic to Manchester United.

The Serbia international's move to United sent shockwaves through the Premier League with many surprised to see Chelsea let one of their stars from last season join a title rival.

But Blues legend Lampard believes there may be to the deal that has been let on so far.

“I heard whispers at the back end of last season that he wanted to go and even if the club cannot come out and say too much about that, maybe there was an element of that in play here when this deal went through.

“You get the feeling that Chelsea didn’t really want Matic to go, but players can push for a move at times and that is why this deal feels different compared to Petr Cech’s move from Chelsea to Arsenal a couple of years back."

12.25am: Arsene Wenger admits Arsenal are not in the hunt to sign Riyad Mahrez from Leicester.

Arsenal were thought to be considering a move for the Algeria international as a back-up option to Thomas Lemar.

But Wenger insists he can't fit Mahrez into his Arsenal team as he has too many similar players.

"We were never close... I rate him as a player but we have similar types with [Alex] Iwobi and [Jack] Wilshere back," Wenger said.

Transfer News LIVE: Deals, gossip and rumours as they break throughout the day.

Thursday, August 10

11.30pm: Arsene Wenger has told Antonio Conte to consider looking closer to home with the Chelsea boss wanting to sign more players.

Conte has been vocal about his displeasure with Chelsea's transfer business this summer and believes his squad is too small.

But Wenger aimed a thinly veiled dig at the Blues boss by hinting at Chelsea's loan system.

"I have sympathy for him," Wenger said. "But do I feel sorry for Chelsea as they don't have enough problems? Then no.

"If you look at the number of players on loan, they can call a few back."

10.30pm: Juventus have stepped up their attempts to sign Emre Can from Liverpool, according to reports.

The Germany international has just under one year left on his contract at Anfield and has supposedly turned down the offer of a new deal.

And Italian newspaper Gazzette dell Sport claim Juventus are ready to offer £23m to sign Can, although Liverpool value the midfielder closer to £27m.

8.25pm: Mark Lawrenson thinks Liverpool could choose to sign a striker if they sell Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.

"I think Liverpool would try to adapt by buying a similar player - attacking midfielder, a No.10," Lawrenson told the BBC.

"Or Klopp might go and splash out on a striker.

"But everyone is looking for those sort of players who provide that bit of magic.

"Who do you get?"

7.30pm: Phil Neville has told Liverpool to sell Philippe Coutinho and replace him with Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

He said on Sky Sports: “I think he is good enough for Barcelona, I think he’s got the characteristics, skill and technique to fit in there with their tiki-taka style.

“But I think for a Jurgen Klopp type side, and I saw it last season, did they miss that much when he was out? I know he scored 14 goals.

“I think if they got €100 million and reinvested it… say bought Diego Costa – somebody like –that – I think that would give them a better chance of winning the league than probably having Coutinho in the side.”

6pm: Steven Gerrard thinks Virgil van Dijk would be a quality signing for Liverpool.

“I think he’s an amazing player, he would strengthen any team in the league, for sure,” he told BT Sport.

“From what I’ve seen at Celtic, from what I’ve seen at Southampton…I was actually hoping we’d come in with a bid from him when he came from Celtic.

“It was no surprise to me that he set to world alight at Southampton, and you can understand why the fee is going to be huge if he eventually gets his transfer over the line.

“You think of all of the top-six teams, he would make them all better.”

5.10pm: Jose Mourinho is open to agreeing a swap deal with Tottenham for Danny Rose.

The England international has revealed his desire to move back north, hinting at a move to Manchester United or Manchester City.

Rose, 27, wants to win trophies and could quit Spurs for a move to a Premier League rival.

Tim Fosu-Mensah has completed a one-year loan deal from Manchester United to Crystal Palace.

On joining the ranks at Selhurst Park he said: "The manager spoke to me about coming down to join Crystal Palace and it was clear that he wanted me to be part of his squad which as a player gives you a great feeling straight away.

"I must now repay that back by putting in some good performances for the club.

"I am only 19-years-old and still have a lot to learn and therefore getting the opportunity to play more games on a regular basis will help my development."

4.05pm: Liverpool’s owners have approved the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, according to sensational claims in Spain.

But the Spanish press say the Nou Camp club haven’t given up on landing Coutinho.

AS report Liverpool’s American owners, the Fenway Sports Group, has given approval for the Brazilian star to be sold.

The Spanish newspaper say a fee of €100m (£90m) plus a further €20m (£18m) in add-ons is acceptable to the club, despite last night’s failed bid.

3.25pm: Sergi Roberto is odds on to make a switch from Barcelona to Chelsea this summer.

BetStars Director of Trading Ian Marmion said: “Chelsea have identified Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto as their top transfer target this summer as they look to add depth to their squad before the transfer window closes.

“The 25-year-old Spaniard is high on Antonio Conte’s transfer wish list and his versatility to operate as a midfielder and wing-back will no doubt appeal to the Blues manager who wants to strengthen in both positions.

“The Spanish international, who was used primarily as a wing-back at the Nou Camp last season, could be enticed by the prospect of a starting spot in his preferred position as a holding midfielder at Stamford Bridge this season and is priced at 8/11 to make the swap.”

2.45pm: Barcelona are not giving up on Philippe Coutinho and want a deal done for the Liverpool star by Sunday.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo say that's not put off Barcelona.

They're still desperate to get Coutinho by Sunday, when fierce rivals Real Madrid are at the Nou Camp in the first-leg on the Spanish Super Cup.

2.25pm: Lucas' Liverpool exit this summer could have a bigger impact than previously thought.

The midfielder joined Lazio earlier this summer and former Red Neil Mellor thinks his influence is a big loss.

He said: "He’s been offered by a club which we’ve seen before, Luis Suarez has gone there, Mascherano is another player Liverpool have lost - South Americans going over to Barcelona - its a big, big attraction for them.

"And he’s lost his mate in the dressing room, Lucas.

"Lucas was a big influence in that dressing room, with the likes of Coutinho and Firmino.

"It’s going to be a big pressure now on Coutinho, do you want to stay at Liverpool or not?"

1.55pm: Liverpool are yet to launch a bid for Gremio ace Luan and must act quick if they want to land him.

But Gremio vice-president Odorico Roman insists he’s heard nothing from Klopp and co.

Jose Mourinho this week insisted that United would not go after the Real Madrid superstar in the final weeks of the transfer window.

But The Sun say Mourinho has told his club to pursue a £100m deal behind closed doors.

And it is said that the Special One is convinced the offer of mammoth wages could lure the 28-year-old away from Spain.

11.25am: RB Leipzig have suggested that this season could be Naby Keita’s last with the club.

Liverpool have been trying to land the 22-year-old for several months but have failed to do so despite tabling a mammoth £75m bid for him.

Keita can trigger a £50m release clause in his current contract next year, a fee that will likely attract several potential suitors.

"It will be pretty tough to keep him here," sporting director Ralf Rangnick admits.

11.10am: Brighton have agreed terms with Belgian side Club Brugge for Colombian international winger Jose Izquierdo.

10.10am: Philippe Coutinho has NOT made an official transfer request - because he doesn’t want to make the club angry.

Liverpool are desperate to keep the Brazilian this summer despite Barcelona’s desire to snap him up.

The Reds turned down a £90m bid from the Spanish side last night and now consider the case closed.

Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri wrote on Twitter: “On Coutinho asking to be freed - it's not 'official transfer request': the player knows that official act would make Liverpool even angrier.”

9.40am: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain wants £120,000-a-week to sign a new Arsenal contract.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is in the final year of his contract at Arsenal.

Starsport understand Arsenal have made an offer to the England international.

"Then there's Virgil van Dijk and Harry Kane."

8.15am: Liverpool will already be working on a replacement for Philippe Coutinho.

That's the verdict of pundit Steve Cotterill. He said: “I’d be very, very surprised if Jurgen Klopp and his recruitment staff behind closed doors are not already speaking about his replacement.

"They are just buying time here, I feel sure about that."

Hoffenheim’s Jeremy Toljan is apparently considered a more realistic target by Tottenham than Cancelo.

4.00am: Newcastle have snapped up Kenedy on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

Kenedy hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons earlier this summer after posting an offensive video on social media during Chelsea's pre-season tour of China.

The Brazil U20 international was swiflty sent home and Chelsea were forced to apologise for his behaviour.

And The Mirror claim Kenedy will not be playing at Stamford Bridge this season, with Newcastle moving in to offer him first-team action.

2.00am: Manchester United have opened talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic over offering him a new contract at Old Trafford.

Ibrahimovic was released by United at the end of last season after suffering a serious knee injury that is likely to keep him out of action until the new year.

“Time is running out and I do want to win trophies," Rose told The Sun. "I don’t want to play football for 15 years and not have one trophy or one medal.

“Sorry, that’s not what I am about. I wouldn’t be happy with that. I want to win something.

12.05am: Liverpool have been told to make a bid for Diego Costa should Philippe Coutinho leave to join Barcleona.

The Reds rejected a £90m from Barcelona for the Brazil international last night but reports in Spain suggest a deal is close to being completed.

But former Manchester United star Phil Neville believes Liverpool would have a better chance of winning the title if they decide to sell Coutinho and buy someone like Diego Costa.

"I think if they got £100m, reinvested and say bought Diego Costa or someone like that," Neville said.

"That would give them a better chance of winning the league than probably having Coutinho in the side."

Wednesday, August 9

10.10pm: Liverpool have snubbed a £90m bid for Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona.

The Kop rejected the offer out of hand, insisting that the Brazilian will not leave this summer.

This second bid saw a large increase on their £72m opening proposal.

Jurgen Klopp has been adamant about his position all summer and it appears Coutinho will have to take action if he wants to leave.

Reports claim he has asked to leave, but he is not thought to want to go to war with the club.
