Tottenham wages: Jermaine Jenas says Spurs must keep Alderweireld happy

The Dutchman has been a rock at the back for Spurs in their rise to regular Premier League title contenders.

And amid claims the Tottenham dressing room agree with Danny Rose’s claim they should earn what they’re worth at the club, former White Hart Lane star Jermaine Jenas thinks the club need to pull out all the stops to keen their star centre-back.

“In Toby Alderweireld you’ve got a world-class player who could go to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Machester United,” he said on Match of the Day 2.

“Keep him happy. Make sure he gets the wages he deserves. Even if he’s not won anything.

“His level right now and where he is in the market, he deserves a lot more.”

When quizzed about a new contract earlier this summer, the 28-year-old said: "No news that I know of so nothing...zero.”

Alan Shearer isn't keen on Tottenham's players pocketing a pay rise before landing a trophy.

“They haven’t won anything,” he said.

"I understand there’s been progression, but these players haven’t won anything.

“These players also nosedived in the Champions League also a lot of them for England last summer.

“So at the moment I don’t see how too many of them can ask for more money.”
