The Colombia international has spent the past year on the Dutch giants’ books after joining them from Atletico Nacional in his homeland.

And last season his performances at the heart of defence helped provide a solid platform for them to challenge for the Eredivisie title.

Sanchez also turned heads as Ajax reached May’s Europa League final, where they were beaten 2-0 by Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.

And this summer he’s been heavily linked with a move away from Amsterdam, with a cluster of top teams said to be interested in securing his services.

Reports emerged last week that Sanchez was on the verge of signing for Tottenham.

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf claim Spurs have had a bid of about £36m (€40m) knocked back.

And they say officials from the London club will meet with Ajax for talks over a potential deal today.

Ajax chiefs have offered Sanchez a bumper contract but are apparently aware that losing him is now "virtually unavoidable".

And they are hopeful a bidding war will ensue between the sides chasing him.

De Telegraaf reckon Chelsea are showing concrete interest in Sanchez.

While they suggest Real Madrid are preparing a bid to take him to Spain.

De Telegraaf claim Sanchez has spoken to Mauricio Pochettinho though.

And a move to Tottenham would apparently be the 21-year-old’s preference.
