Romelu Lukaku impressed on his Man Utd debut

That’s according to former Premier League star Joleon Lescott who says the Belgian forward did not get enough credit for his goalscoring exploits at Everton.

Lukaku was drafted in from the Toffees for £75m earlier this summer.

He got off to a flyer on Sunday with a brace against West Ham in United’s 4-0 triumph.

And Lescott reckons he’ll be a crucial player for United this season as they look to win their first Premier League title since 2013.

“He’s one of the toughest (to play against),” Lescott said on Sky Sports of Lukaku.

“Obviously there is different opinions on him, how he looks on the eye but he is very effective. Quick, strong, very good technically as well, which is probably underestimated.

“He scores a lot of goals and I don’t think he gets enough credit he deserves because of the amount of goals he has scored.

“I think they needed someone to effect games when it’s tight, we all know Jose’s teams don’t tend to be free-flowing and attacking.

“So if they need to sit back against the likes of the top teams away from home, when you’ve got someone like Lukaku up front, you’ve always got a chance of scoring goals and stretching the game.”

United will face Swansea at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.
