Zlatan Ibrahimovic is in talks over a new contract and becoming a coach at Manchester United

The United boss has already revealed the club are discussing a comeback at Old Trafford for Ibrahimovic.

Once the Swede recovers from his long-term knee injury, a return to the squad on a new deal is expected.

United let the 35-year-old's contract expire in the summer following his cruciate ligament blow in April.

But despite bringing in Romelu Lukaku from Everton for £75m, Ibrahimovic still has plenty to offer United.

And according to The Independent, the Red Devils are already looking at plans for after he hangs up his boots.

United are likely to offer Ibrahimovic fresh terms until the end of the season as he aims to be back by January.

However, Mourinho is keen for the experienced hitman to stay in Manchester beyond his playing days.

The Portuguese apparently sees Ibrahimovic as a similar figure to former Chelsea forward Didier Drogba in being able to offer advice and expertise to United's squad.

As a result, The Independent add Ibrahimovic could eventually be set for a coaching role.

And the prospect has been discussed in preliminary contract talks.

Ibrahimovic's influence on the squad has been key from last season.

And Mourinho feels he could serve as a bridge between manager and players at Manchester United in the future.

Ibrahimovic, though, has no intention of retiring soon as he is eager to get back playing again quickly, having seen Lukaku score twice in United's opening 4-0 Premier League win over West Ham on Sunday.

He's not played since injuring his knee against Anderlecht in April.
