Tottenham v Chelsea: Paul Merson is predicting a draw

It is Spurs’ first Premier League game at temporary home Wembley - a ground they struggled at in European competition last term - while Chelsea are desperate to avoid back-to-back defeats.

Merson believes both sides will be “nervous” and is predicting a stalemate.

“Chelsea won't lose here,” he said.

“I think both teams will be more than happy with a draw.

“You have to remember that the last thing Tottenham want to do is lose this game - their first at Wembley this season - and Chelsea can't afford to lose a second game on the bounce.

“Both teams will be nervous and I think it will be quite cagey.”

Tottenham kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win at Newcastle while Chelsea suffered a shock 3-2 defeat at home to Burnley.

But Merson reckons Spurs were sub-par in their game, and says if there is a winner at Wembley then it will be Chelsea.

“If not a draw I would probably go Chelsea,” he told Sky Sports.

“I was not impressed with Tottenham at Newcastle, I thought they were poor.”
