Liverpool transfer news: Reds are refusing to sell Philippe Coutinho

That’s the verdict of professional goalkeeper and now journalist David Preece.

He’s delighted Liverpool are sticking to their word over Coutinho, amid strong interest from Spanish side Barcelona.

Barca are desperate to sign Brazilian midfielder this summer but have failed with bids of £72m and £90m.

Premier League giants Liverpool are adamant Coutinho is not for sale, and Preece admires their resolve.

“Jurgen Klopp is probably as sick as I am at answering questions about Coutinho,” Preece said on talkSPORT.

“I really like the stance that Liverpool have taken about this and I hope they stick to their guns.

“This summer (there has been) the likes of (Diego) Costa, (Virgil) Van Dijk and Coutinho.

“Fair play to Coutinho, he seems to be handling it a little bit differently to the rest of them, he’s not making too much of a fuss.

“But that said, I quite like the stance they’re taking and I hope Liverpool stick by their guns.”

West Ham star Michail Antonio disagrees with Preece, though.

He thinks Coutinho should be granted his wish of a move to the Nou Camp after years of good service on Merseyside.

"He did every single thing he possibly could do,” he told talkSPORT.

“He stayed, he trained, he worked hard – he stayed away from it – and Liverpool say ‘no we’re keeping him’.

“And then he handed in a transfer request because he had no other option. But he’s been the perfect servant for them for the past three or four years.

“His opportunity has arisen to take that massive step and the club are going to keep you where you are. He had no other option to do what he did."
