The Reds went in goalless at half time against Frank De Boer’s side but came out on top thanks to a Sadio Mane goal in the second half.
Jurgen Klopp made several changes to the side that beat Hoffenheim 2-1 in mid-week, with Joe Gomez, Ragnar Klavan and Andrew Robertson coming into the defence, and James Milner and Daniel Sturridge further up the pitch.
The result moves Liverpool up to fourth in the fledgling Premier League table, following their 3-3 draw with Watford last time out.
