That’s according to former player turned pundit Tony Cascarino who reckons the Scotland international is the real deal.

Despite being a low-profile signing, Cascarino has backed the 23-year-old to flourish at Anfield following his impressive display against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Cascarino told The Times: “Andrew Robertson gives Liverpool a new dynamic at left back and, for about £8m, could prove to be one of the bargains of the summer.

Liverpool ace Andrew Robertson has been backed by Tony Cascarino

“The Scotland international reminds me of Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier — an attacking full back who is brilliant at crossing.

“Last season, James Milner did a great job there but would slow moves down by cutting back on to his favoured right foot, whereas Robertson’s first thought is to whip crosses into the box.

“He is a more rounded player than Alberto Moreno, who looks third-choice now and I would not be surprised if the Spaniard left.”

Jurgen Klopp snapped up Robertson from Hull this summer for £10m to solve the Reds' problems at left-back.

Veteran midfielder James Milner filled in last term with Alberto Moreno left out in the cold.

Liverpool will face Hoffenheim on Wednesday in a Champions League qualifier having won the first-leg 2-1 in Germany.
