At least that’s the verdict of Reds hero Didi Hamann amid speculation the La Liga giants still want the Brazil international.

Coutinho is top of Barcelona’s summer shopping list following the world-record departure of compatriot Neymar to Paris St-Germain.

And so far he’s been the subject of three unsuccessful bids from Ernesto Valverde - coming in at £72m, £90m and £118m respectively.

Reports suggest Barcelona are set to make a fourth offer of about £138m for Coutinho before deadline day.

And Hamann reckons Liverpool should sell the 25-year-old if Barcelona agree to pay the asking price slapped on him.

Speaking on ITV after last night’s 4-2 win over Hoffenheim, Hamann said: “Well, I’m a big believer if somebody wants to leave the football club and doesn’t want to be at the club, you saw the atmosphere tonight, you saw the style of football, the way they played, it’s been scintillating for most parts of the game. If he doesn’t want to be part of this, let him go.

“Obviously the price has to be right. I think they’ve put a price on him. If Barcelona matches it, if Barcelona is willing to pay this, I think you’ve got to sell him.

Didi Hamann thinks Liverpool should sell Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for the right price

“I don’t think one or two players are the answer and all the problems are resolved, but I think it gives you a far better chance to be successful. As I said, I think the mindset has to change. But if you bring a central midfielder in, maybe a centre-back, I think it gives you a far better chance to be successful this season.”

Away from transfer business, Liverpool resume their Premier League campaign against Arsenal on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men go into the clash off the back of a draw and a win in their two opening games of the season.
