Gerard Pique says Philippe Coutinho is desperate to join Barcelona this summer

That’s according to Barca star Gerard Pique.

Liverpool playmaker Coutinho has been backed to replace Neymar at the Nou Camp following the winger’s record move to Paris St-Germain.

The 26-year-old handed in a transfer request in hope of forcing through a move to Barca.

Liverpool are desperate to keep hold of their star man and have rejected three bids from the La Liga giants for Coutinho, with a fourth offer reportedly imminent.

And Barca defender Pique says Coutinho and Borussia Dortmund winger Ousmane Dembele are desperate to join this summer.

Pique told the Daily Mail: “I think players still want to join Barcelona, and they are showing that as is the case with Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele.

“One by putting in a transfer request and the other with his actions at Dortmund.

“It suggests that they are both delighted about the idea of coming; they want to come.

“The problem is, we sold Ney and the clubs know we have the money from that, and the market is the way it is.

“I don’t think it’s because the players don’t want to come, they are keen to come to Barca, but right now sign whatever player the club wants, it seems to cost more.”
