Liverpool have launched a bid for Thomas Lemar

Anfield chiefs have slapped an offer worth an initial £66.6m (€72m) plus £7.4m (€8m) in add-ons on the table.

According to L’Equipe, Liverpool face a race against time to conclude a deal for Lemar.

The window slams shut on Thursday and Lemar is due at Clairefontaine this afternoon to link up with the France squad.

So Anfield chiefs are expected to follow up their bid by holding talks with Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev this morning.

Lemar is under contract with the Ligue 1 champions until 2020.

He established himself as one of Europe's hottest talents last season, providing 14 goals and 17 assists in 55 appearances.

The Telegraph earlier reported that Liverpool had submitted an enquiry for his services.

And L'Equipe claim Lemar is eager to move to the Premier League.

Arsenal were desperate to snap up Lemar this summer but had three bids rejected.

Arsene Wenger admitted defeat last week.

He said: “It’s dead because Monaco have closed the door definitely.

"They are still on cases like Mbappe and Fabinho.

"They’ve already lost Mendy, Bernardo Silva and Bakayoko, so Monaco is at a stage where they have closed the door."

Lemar has also been linked with a move to Manchester United.
