The two clubs struck a deal yesterday and Hanley left the Scotland camp last night to head to East Anglia.
Hanley joined Newcastle from Blackburn last summer but managed just 16 appearances in all competitions.
Magpies boss Rafa Benitez is happy for the 25-year-old to quit St James’ Park.
But Hanley’s £40,000-a-week wages could prove a stumbling block.
