The England international underwent a medical at St. George’s Park last night with a deadline-busting switch to Merseyside on the cards.

And a fan has shared a picture of him in a lift between the stages of those routine tests at the Three Lions' state of the art training base.

The image, circulating on Twitter, shows Oxlade-Chamberlain in a training kit as he travels with Liverpool officials.

The 24-year-old is poised to cost the Reds an initial £35m, with Arsenal to receive a further £5m in perfomance related add-ons.

The imminent deal comes off the back of Oxlade-Chamberlain turning down the opportunity to link up with Chelsea.

The reigning Premier League champions had agreed to hand over £40m to get the Southampton academy graduate on-board.

However, he wasn't keen on swapping the Emirates for Stamford Bridge if it meant playing wing-back - rather than taking up his favoured central midfield role.

The breakdown of that prospective transfer opened the door for Liverpool to swoop for Oxlade-Chamberlain.

And he's set to join Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson and Dominic Solanke in arriving on Merseyside this summer.

Liverpool are unlikely to want to end their business with the capture of Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal though.

And they are thought to be hopeful of getting Thomas Lemar and Virgil Van Dijk on-board before 11pm tonight.
