That’s the verdict of footballer-turned-pundit Andy Townsend, who reckons the window being open a day longer in Spain could help the La Liga giants get a deal over the line.

Coutinho rose to the top of Barcelona’s wanted list following the departure of Brazil team-mate Neymar to Paris St-Germain earlier this month.

And he’s been the subject of three failed bids from Ernesto Valverde this summer - coming in at £72m, £90m and £118m respectively.

Liverpool remain adamant that Coutinho will not be sold with less than 24 hours to go before the transfer window shuts in the UK.

Townsend, who spoke out on last night’s edition of The Debate on Sky Sports, reckons Barcelona could still snare the 25-year-old though.

He said: "With Luis Suarez, there was that agreement where he gave them one more year before he could go.

"You just wonder if that agreement has already been struck.

"It does seem slightly strange they’re spending so much money. They’ve just done Naby Keita.

"They’re really going for it, literally as the window is about to close.

"It wouldn’t surprise me, with that extra 24 hours if Coutinho did go."
