The Hammers have been locked in talks with Barcelona over taking midfielder ace Gomes on loan.

Slaven Bilic’s side have promised Barca that the 24-year-old Portugal international will play in 70 per cent of their games this season and had hopes that would get the deal done.

But West Ham’s London rivals Tottenham look set to ruin their deadline day plans.

The Daily Mail claim Gomes is now on his way to Spurs as he wants to play for Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino has already tied up a £23m deal for Paris St-Germain defender Serge Aurier today but wants further reinforcements.

West Ham target Andre Gomes is set to complete a move to Tottenham

It is said Gomes is set to join Spurs on a season-long loan.

The north Londoners will then have the option to sign him permanently next summer.

Gomes, who only joined Barca from Valencia last summer, suffered a stop-start campaign last season.

He is not part of Ernseto Valverde’s plans for this season and will hope to revive his career in the Premier League.

West Ham’s failure to land Gomes follows on from their unsuccessful bid to sign Everton’s Kevin Mirallas on loan.
