Tottenham and Chelsea lead the hunt for his signature this summer.

And reports suggested Barkley was on the verge of moving to Stamford Bridge, only to change his mind despite supposedly having a medical.

But to clarify his situation, he has tweeted: "Contrary to a number of reports in the press, I did not undertake a medical with any club at any point.

"I simply decided that due to my injury, it would be best to make a decision on my future and assess all my options in January when fully fit.

"Thanks for all of the support."

Chelsea saw a £35m bid accepted by Everton for Barkley on deadline day.

But a move to west London failed to materialise as the 23-year-old stayed at Goodison Park.

Ronald Koeman was keen to offload the England international as he does not intend to sign a new deal with his contract expiring next summer.

However, he suffered a hamstring injury in pre-season and will be sidelined until November.

Spurs subsequently held off on making a bid, and it has been claimed Barkley's preference would be to link up with Mauricio Pochettino.

As a result, he has delayed making a move until mid-season when back fit.
