The midfielder rose through the ranks of Espanyol’s academy after joining the La Liga side as a kid.

And his emergence as one of Spain’s brightest prospects has seen him capped at Under-16s level by his country.

Earlier this year reports suggested United were interested in securing Puigmal’s services as part of their plan to bring together the world’s top youngsters at their Carrington base.

And it seems those claims were correct with the 16-year-old taking to Instagram to confirm his Old Trafford switch.

Puigmal posted two pictures as he completed his move on Sunday.

The first showed him signing a contract, sat alongside United legend Andy Cole and Under-18s coach Kieran McKenna.

The second pictured Puigmal in a Red Devils training kit with his family surrounding him.

Puigmal’s post also included a message which read: "Very happy and proud to announce that I am a new @manchesterunited player, a dream come true.

"It's time to work, come on red devils!"

Due to his age and therefore lack of professional contract at Espanyol, United are likely to have paid a minimal fee for Puigmal.
