At least that’s what former Reds striker John Aldridge has suggested on Twitter in the wake of the Brazil international’s prospective move to Barcelona failing to materialise.

Coutinho was earmarked as one of the men to replace Neymar after his compatriot left the Nou Camp for Paris St-Germain.

And he was the subject of three unsuccessful bids from Ernesto Valverde, coming in at £72m, £90m and £118m respectively.

Barcelona failed to convince Liverpool to part with their prized asset before the Spanish transfer window closed on Friday night.

John Aldridge revealed his take on Philippe Coutinho's current status at Liverpool on Twitter

And that’s left Coutinho facing the prospect of trying to win over the club’s supporters once again.

Liverpool have looked like a real force to be reckoned with while collecting seven points during Coutinho’s first-team absence.

And Aldridge seems to think Klopp should stick with the team that’s been impressing rather than reintroduce the 25-year-old.

Brazil international Philippe Coutinho wanted to leave Liverpool for Barcelona this summer

Taking to Twitter, Aldridge wrote: "Now Coutinho stays the 2nd team at the min is, [Loris] Karius or [Danny] Ward, [Nathaniel] Clyne, [Joe] Gomez, [Ragnar] Klavan, [Alberto] Moreno, [James] Milner, [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain] Ox, [Adam] Lallana, [Daniel] Sturridge, [Dominic] Solanke, Coutinho! Not bad!!"

Liverpool are back in action against Pep Guardiola’s title-chasing Manchester City on Saturday.

And whether Coutinho will return to Klopp’s matchday squad for the Etihad encounter remains to be seen.
