Dimitri Payet forced a move to Marseille from West Ham in January

The French star had a stellar season in the Premier League when West Ham brought him in for £10m in 2015.

He won Hammer of the Year after scoring 12 goals and was nominated for the PFA Player of the Year Award in 2015/16.

But it all turned sour the following year after attitude problems led to Slaven Bilic freezing the Frenchman out of the first-team squad.

Payet eventually got his way, though, and forced a move back to Marseille for £25m.

It left a bitter taste for many West Ham fans, and his latest comments will do little to repair an already fractured relationship.

He told So Foot: “I know how to be a d******d. It’s one of my specialities. It’s a little game.

“When I want to p**s everyone off, I do it. My managers understood that: when I sulk, they talk to me.

“It’s a way for me to be heard. Those who know me play along, and, in the end, it goes well.

“I left for many reasons, but the main one was about football.

“West Ham’s objectives weren’t the same as the last season, and I felt in danger for my football and my chances with the national team.”

The Hammers find themselves at the bottom of the Premier League table after three games, and the bookies have them at 4/1 to be relegated this season.
