The Arsenal man is facing growing scrutiny over his role in the Gunners’ recent poor form – but during a demolition of the Scandinavian side at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Stuttgart, Ozil demonstrated why he deserves to keep his first-team place.

He opened the scoring in the 10th minute, rounding off a superb passage of attacking possession football with a beautiful curling finish inside the keeper’s near post.

And seven minutes later he turned provider, laying on a goal for Julian Draxler – who was linked with a Gunners move last month.

A brace from Timo Werner and a goal apiece for Leon Goretzka and Mario Gomez completed the scoring – but Ozil’s midfield masterclass captured fans’ attention online.

“Imagine if he had a team around him at Arsenal with half the quality of the German squad,” said one supporter.

“Ozil is world class playing for Germany, was world class playing for Madrid.

“And a Scapegoat playing for Arsenal. Sad.”

Another wrote: “World class, his doubters can keep doubting, but he'll still be world class.”

“If Ozil wants to, he can score a lot of goals by just shooting more often,” added a third.

“Never understood why he didn't do that much because he can take a shot pretty well.”

Elsewhere, another lacklustre performance from England required them to come from behind to clinch a narrow 2-1 win over Slovakia at Wembley Stadium last night.

Spurs’ Eric Dier equalised shortly before half-time, cancelling out Stanislav Lobotka’s third-minute strike, before Marcus Rashford fired home the winner in the 59th minute.
