Jurgen Klopp was desperate to splash the cash before the deadline shut last week.

The Liverpool boss landed four players, with Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson, Dominic Solanke and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all heading to Anfield.

And according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, the Reds also made a move for Inter Milan centre-back Vanheusden.

However, Inter blocked Liverpool’s move and refused to sell the 18-year-old.

Liverpool directors reportedly watched Vanheusden on numerous occasions and were impressed by the Belgium Under-21 star.

Calciomercato add that Inter are now in advanced talks with Vanheusden over a new contract.

The youngster’s current deal runs out in 2019 and the Serie A giants are keen to tie down the defender.

Liverpool have had an impressive start to the Premier League season.

The Reds find themselves second behind Manchester United after winning two and drawing one in their opening games.

Liverpool are back in action on Saturday afternoon when Klopp’s men travel to Manchester City.
