The club announced today the right-back will miss a “significant period of time” due to a back injury.

It is being reported it could be up to three months before the former Southampton star is back for the Reds.

And the injury news has led to plenty of people making the same observation about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

One of the reasons the former Arsenal star moved to Anfield was he had been playing right wing-back for the Gunners, despite stating his preferred position was central midfield.

But with Clyne out injured and Jurgen Klopp open to a wing-back system, Oxlade-Chamberlain could end up playing in the same position as the one he left at the Emirates.

“Oxlade-Chamberlain has been conned into playing right back again,” wrote one fan.

Another added: “Has Klopp informed Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain that he'll be playing right back yet?”

And a third said: “Clyne gets injured for Liverpool so Oxlade Chamberlain can play at wing back. Oh the irony.”

It comes as fellow England player Dele Alli got into hot water after making an obscene gesture to Kyle Walker during the Three Lion’s World Cup qualifying win over Slovakia at Wembley last night.

And the Manchester City defender responded brilliantly on Twitter today.
