That’s according to German daily SportsBild who reckon the Premier League’s elite were sniffing around as they looked to bolster their ranks.

The Gunners snapped up Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon and Chelsea eventually secured Alvaro Morata’s signature from Real Madrid.

Liverpool signed Mohamed Salah from Roma.

The Egyptian, however, is less versatile than Muller.

Muller’s place in the Bayern first-team looks precarious this season.

Bayern swooped for James Rodriguez from Real Madrid - although the 26-year-old is currently sidelined through injury.

When fit, the Colombian international is expected to battle Muller for a starting spot in Bayern's attack.

Muller struggled for form last term and only managed five goals in the league.

Despite his potential lack of game time, SportBild say Germany boss Joachim Low has already assured him that he’s a key player for the national team.

Bayern's chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insisted in July that Muller is indispensable.

He said: "Thomas is still unsaleable because he fits perfectly with FC Bayern.

"There is no discussion about this.

"But Thomas as well as we are in agreement in the evaluation of the last season: It was not a good one.

"But that is not a problem either."

Muller has scored 96 goals in 259 games for Bayern since making his debut in 2008.
