Ozil’s future in north London has been a hot topic for debate for over a year.

The World Cup winner is in the final 12 months of his current deal and has been linked with leaving the Gunners.

But unlike fellow contract rebel Alexis Sanchez, there was limited interest in Ozil during the summer transfer window.

Despite that, the German maestro has not held negotiations with Arsenal for several weeks as he continues to weigh up his options.

Starsport understands, however, that Gunners boss Wenger is convinced that the 28-year-old will commit his future soon.

Ozil is after a major bump in his wages but several pundits have questioned whether he deserves a reward following a string of indifferent performances recently.

The ex-Real Madrid star was poor against Liverpool during Arsenal’s 4-0 thumping at Anfield before the international break.

Ozil took to social media to hit back at the former Arsenal players who had been criticising him for that display.

Gunners legend Ian Wright did not take kindly to the midfielder’s comments and called upon him to sign a new contract and show where his allegiances lie.

Wright said: “Sign a contract if you feel that strongly about people criticising the team because you're somebody who is integral to Arsenal's success.

"You're not signing a deal and you're probably going to continue to hide behind the fact that [Alexis] Sanchez is the one that everybody's going to say, 'Is he going to go?'.

"If you feel that strongly, why haven't you signed yet?"
