Romeu Lukaku put the Red Devils in front but Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting bagged his second from a corner to deny United a fourth successive victory.
During the match, Mourinho and Hughes clashed on the touchline.
According to The Telegraph, the Stoke boss pushed the Portuguese in the chest, swore at him and called for his dismissal.
Starsport understands Hughes told him to “f*** off”.
Mourinho then opted against shaking Hughes’ hand at the final whistle.
And when quizzed on why he didn’t after the game, the United manager walked out of an interview.
The Telegraph add Mourinho shunned Hughes again in the tunnel as the Stoke manager pursued him to the dressing room.
Mourinho was less than impressed with his counterpart’s behaviour.
And it is not the first time Hughes has rowed with another manager, having clashed with Arsene Wenger, Roberto Mancini and Tony Pulis in the past.
Mourinho will be hoping to avoid any flare-ups tomorrow when United welcome Basel to Old Trafford in their Champions League opener (7.45pm).
