Former footballers, pundits and fans have all weighed in on whether the Senegalese hitman should have been sent off for kicking goalkeeper Ederson in the head.

Phil Neville claimed Mane had every right to go for the ball, whereas Jamie Carragher said whatever the intention was, it was a dangerous foul.

And now, Carra has managed to get a response from the man himself.

The Reds legend was pitchside for Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Sevilla in the Champions League last night.

Before the game, he managed to chat to Mane during their warm-ups.

Liverpool striker Sadio Mane responded brilliantly to being asked about his red card

“Red card or not?” he asks the forward as the pair shake hands.

The 25-year-old immediately jogs off with a huge grin across his face before wagging his finger – suggesting he didn’t think he deserved to be sent off.

He later admitted he didn’t expect to be sent to the tunnel during the match on Saturday (September 9).

Mane jogged off wagging his finger

“Honestly, I was focusing more on the goalkeeper than the card and when I saw the red card I was surprised because I was expecting a yellow card,” he said.

“But I'll accept it and try to forget it.

“I was going for the ball and I didn't have the intention to hurt him because I'm not that kind of player.”
