Reiss Nelson has impressed in Arsenal's youth ranks

He impressed coaches at the Emirates who regularly pushed him through the ranks.

Despite his relative youth, last season Nelson was a fixture in the Gunners' U21 squad and made nine appearances.

His impressive development hasn’t gone unnoticed by England either.

He’s starred for the U16 Three Lions squad and now features for the U18s.

Nelson dazzled for the Gunners in pre-season after being deployed as a right wing-back in the 3-4-3 formation.

However, his role for the youth team is more advanced.

Nelson can be deployed in an array of attacking positions across the frontline.

Arsene Wenger said: "He's a more offensive player, more a guy who can play as one of the three strikers or as an offensive midfielder.

"As strikers or creative players, you tend to have two kinds of players.

“Some who are good at running with the ball, and some who are good at running off the ball.

"[Nelson] is more a player who likes the ball to his feet and provokes opponents by passing them.”

Speaking in the summer, Nelson revealed how former Real Madrid star Mesut Ozil has been helping him out.

"Mesut's been talking to me and really helping me through the games,” the youngster said.

“After the first game he seemed impressed and he couldn't tell how old I was. When I told him he was really surprised.

"From there, he has just been telling me loads of stuff that I need to be doing - how to behave on and off the pitch. It's crazy to be getting advice from one of the best players in the world."

The promising youngster starts for Arsenal against Doncaster in the Carabao Cup tonight.
