Paul Merson believes criticism of Jurgen Klopp is unjust

That is verdict of Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson.

Klopp has come under-fire in recent weeks after his side were demolished 5-0 by Manchester City and failed to see out their Champions League clash with Sevilla.

The German has also been scrutinised for failing to bring in defensive reinforcements to Liverpool's shaky back four.

But Merson believes criticism of Klopp is unjust.

"I think keep the faith with Klopp," Merson told Jeff Stelling and Chris Kamara on new Sky Sports show The Debate.

"I think if they can get a good run [they'll be fine].

"Two weeks ago he was a hero. They wiped the floor with Arsenal.

"They go and get beat off Man City with a sending off which made the result look worse.

"And Sevilla, believe me, are not the worst team in the world. And they should have put them to bed with a penalty to put them 3-1 up."

And the Soccer Saturday panelist was on hand to offer his advice as to why Klopp was struggling to maintain form at the Merseyside outfit.

Klopp has come under pressure recently after two games without a win

"I just think he's got it back to front at the moment," he added.

"Back to front in Germany might be good enough but it isn't good enough in the Premier league.

"Pep Guardiola did it last season. He got it horribly wrong. Went from back to front and didn't sort out the defence.

"And they were out the Premier League title race in no time."

Liverpool welcome Burnley to Anfield this weekend as they look to get back to winning ways.
