Wagner was critical of referee Jon Moss that Elias Kachunga’s 62nd-minute “winner” was ruled offside by flag-waving assistant Scott Ledger – much to the fury of Huddersfield players and supporters alike.
Laurent Depoitre had given the Tykes the lead on his first start and Jamie Vardy equalised from the penalty spot.
But the real talking point was the Kachunga blunder.
Dejected Wagner said: “I have seen the video footage.
“It was a goal. Kachunga was a yard onside. It wasn’t difficult to see.
“That’s why the referee’s assistant is there.
“I haven’t spoken to the officials but absolutely it hurts.
“It’s a huge disappointment for us because we scored a second goal which unfortunately didn’t count.
“The referee decided it was offside and I’m very unhappy with the result because of this one situation.
“We have to accept this decision even if it’s a wrong one.
“But I am pleased with the performance, especially of the three players who made their debuts.”
Honest Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare had every sympathy and said: “This one probably went for us.
“To get a point I have to be relieved. They will be disappointed they didn’t get three points.”
There was no sign of the controversy to come in a helter-skelter opening 45 minutes with Leicester certainly not enjoying the ride.
Leicester’s new striker Kelechi Iheanacho was afforded the visitors’ only chance in the opening half-hour, but his shot was blocked by Huddersfield midfielder Abdelhamid Sabiri, making his first start for the club.
Aaron Mooy ran the show for Huddersfield, every pass pinged to the Aussie who then found gaps galore in the Leicester rearguard.
Mooy ensured Huddersfield remained in complete command but just when you anticipated the breakthrough, Vardy showed you can never relax when he is around as he hooked just past the upright.
So the half finished a stalemate – but no one was prepared for what happened next with the posh fans missing all the madness as they finished off drinks in the VIP lounges.
Two goals in four minutes stunned those who had made it back to their seats when first Depoitre brilliantly turned Harry Maguire and arrowed his shot into the bottom corner in the 46th minute.
And then in the 50th minute, Chris Lowe caught Andy King in the box and the other assistant referee flagged furiously for a penalty.
Vardy did not look a gift horse in the mouth and smashed the spot-kick home.
Huddersfield were stunned but recovered for Mathias Zanka to fire in a shot which keeper Kasper Schmeichel flipped over.
Then came the Kachunga incident before Leicester should have taken the lead themselves.
Riyad Mahrez’s clever play saw him drill across for Vardy who completely missed in front of goal and kicked the post in anger.
Tom Ince was inches wide himself and then there were boos all around when substitute Demarai Gray went down far too easily in the box under Mathias Jorgensen’s challenge, but referee Jon Moss was unmoved.
Sabiri said: “We are happy with the 1-1 at the end of the day.
“I am looking forward to the next game.
“The boss said he was happy with me after the game.
“I felt comfortable out there on the pitch, it was good to play.”
