West Ham news: Andy Carroll needs special care, says Slaven Bilic

The striker has been hit by injuries all his career and Bilic is keen to ensure he does not break down again.

And Bilic said: Of course we have to manage him. He looks good, he looks fit, he is training, hopefully he is going to last because that was his problem for ages.

“He isn’t going to play tomorrow for example. We’re going to try to manage him, we tried to last year and two years ago but it didn't help a lot.

“But this season we are managing him a little bit different.

“We will never rush him, especially now when he just came back we will try to avoid him playing three games a week let’s say for 90 minutes.

“We don’t want to treat him as an individual but we will try to use every opportunity we can to rest him.”

But Bilic now believes defender James Collins will only be out for a month after picking up an ankle injury in the goalless draw at West Brom on Saturday.

He said: “It looked worse, it looked like it was going to be a few months but touchwood it’s only going to be a couple of weeks.

“He’s just done a scan and it’s not ideal but I expected worse based on how he got injured.”
