That’s the verdict of former Aston Villa star Alan McInally, who says Jose Mourinho’s side can mount a sustained title challenge this term.

United have started the new campaign in impressive fashion and sit joint-top of the table with local rivals Manchester City on 13 points.

Their form, and goalscoring prowess, represents a big turnaround from last season when they struggled to find the net and put games to bed.

McInally says United’s performances will have had an impact on the Premier League rivals that’d have loved to face them last year.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, McInally said: "I thought they were weak toward the end of games last year. That’s why they weren’t just as good and they had loads of draws.

"They’re looking powerful, really powerful. Defensively they’ve looked pretty good. They’ve got if not the best goalkeeper in the league in [David] De Gea. That will help, massively. Of course, they spent all that money on [Romelu] Lukaku, who’s hit the ground flying.

"They’ve looked really, really good. Title contenders again. I know we’re very early in the season, but right now there’ll be a lot of teams who wanted to play Manchester United last year happily, who don’t want to play them this year. It’s certainly between them and Man City."

United will be out to maintain their unbeaten streak when they take on Championship outfit Burton in the EFL Cup tonight.

They return to Premier League action when they visit Southampton on Saturday.

United beat Saints twice last season, and drew their meeting at St. Mary’s in May.
