The on-loan Swansea striker is believed to be considering an approach from the Super Eagles over switching his allegiances.

London-born Abraham is an England Under-21 regular but can still be poached as he has yet to win a Three Lions cap.

But Swansea chief Paul Clement said: “From my point of view I hope he stays with the England national team.

“I’m not sure he’d be better off career wise, I am saying it because I’m English and he’s a good English talent, so you want him involved in your national team.

“But, ultimately, it’s the decision of the player.”

Abraham, 19, switched from Chelsea to Swansea this season to gain Premier League experience and has started all five games.

His father is Nigerian and Nigerian Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick first tried to nab Abraham last year.

And with 2018 World Cup qualification on the horizon, they have a real carrot to dangle in front of Abraham.

England will fear he could follow in the footsteps Wilfried Zaha, who turned his back on England last season to play for the Ivory Coast.

Nigeria have also prised away the likes Chelsea star Victor Moses and Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi in recent years.

Clement added: “In some cases they make the choice because they see an opportunity to play more regularly at international level.

“And in other cases they want to represent the country where they were born or where their parents were born.”

Swansea be looking for more goals from his teenager after scoring just once so far for the Welsh club.

Abraham also has the £12m signing Wilfried Bony back to full fitness and breathing down his neck for tomorrow’s clash with Watford.

Clement added: “Our defending has been positive recently but we’ve lost a little bit in the attacking side of things. I think that will come in time.

“Offensively you do need a little bit more rhythm and a little bit more fluidity, especially when some players are getting to know each other.

“So our attack is taking a little bit more time to build but we are working on it.

“I’m thinking about Bony as a potential starter after he got almost 80 minutes under his belt at Reading the other night. I was pleased with his physical condition and his out put.”
