The Reds boss shot down the critics who say he sends his team forward in style but hasn’t got a clue about how to shore things up at the back.

Liverpool ended a four match run without a win with a nail-biting victory at Leicester, thanks to a missed penalty from Jamie Vardy.

Klopp said: “I like this team. Maybe nobody else likes it, but I really like it and I want to improve it together.

“Sometimes you need a punch in the face and we’ve already had a few. Not too hard. Manchester City was hard. That was the only one.

“We were not really on the floor but we always got up. We are here and we play good football. I like the shape we play.

“It’s obvious we concede too much – there’s no doubt. That’s really hard for me.

“Usually, I’m a really good defensive coach but obviously that works not too good so far but we will be fine.

“I don’t know everything about football but I could write a book in the next two hours about which space we have to defend, why, when and where you have to be.

“When you have to step up, push up - all that stuff - that’s no problem, but you have to do it.

Klopp admits he cannot legislate for costly individual mistakes from his defenders.

“When one player does not push up, I am responsible. I can’t take a car and drive them out of the box.

“That’s how it is. As long as not every player is doing it we will work on it. When everyone is doing it I will make sure we are doing it for the rest of our lives.”

Vardy admits he was out-Foxed after his spot kick was saved by goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Mignolet gave away the 72nd minute penalty by hacking down Vardy with the score at 3-2.

But he redeemed himself by only moving at the last minute as Vardy paid the price for changing his mind.

“I’ve always told myself never to change your mind, so more fool me,” said Vardy.

“I was going to change but unfortunately didn’t and it’s cost us. I’ll take that on my shoulders. I’m the man who missed.”

Mignolet added: “Vardy has scored two like that recently. I just tried to stay up at that moment and luckily I managed to keep it out.”

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson helped himself to a goal and reckons the win was just the boost needed before flying to Moscow to face Spartak in the Champions League tomorrow.

Henderson said: “When you win games it makes it a lot easier. It makes it feel good to get into the next game and hopefully get a good result.

“Moscow will be a tough one but we have to prepare for it quickly and get ready for it straight away and this helps.”

And while Mignolet enjoyed a rare moment of sunshine, it was Philippe Coutinho who lit up this match.

He set up Mo Salah’s opener with a wonderful cross, scored the second with a delicious free kick and then had a hand in Henderson’s third.

But they could never quite shake Leicester off with Shinji Okazaki and Vardy weighing in with goals before the penalty miss.
