Jurgen Klopp claims he could write a book on defending in just two hours

Liverpool have conceded 12 goals in their last five games in all competitions, failing to keep a clean sheet since their 4-0 win over Arsenal just under a month ago.

The Reds’ backline have come under criticism in some shaky performances this season, but Anfield boss Klopp insists he remains a strong defensive coach - and would be able to produce a book on the art of it in just two hours.

“We concede too much – there’s no doubt,” he said.

“That’s really hard for me because I’m a really good defensive coach.

“I don’t know everything about football, but I could write a book in the next two hours about which space we have to defend, why, when and where you have to be, when you have to push up.

“But you have to do it.”

Liverpool have conceded ten goals in a mere three away games in the Premier League, their worst record in as many trips since 1965.

But Klopp believes he is not entirely to blame for their defensive woes this season.

“I am responsible, but I can’t take a car and drive my players out of the box,” he added.

“Sometimes you need a punch in the face and we’ve already had a few. The main thing for defending is tactical discipline.

“Nineteen years experience, that’s no problem. But you have to do it.

“As long as not every player is doing it we will work on it.”
