Man City star Benjamin Mendy is flying to Barcelona for tests on his knee injury

City travel to west London on Saturday for a blockbuster Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.

But it seems likely that they will be without their impressive new full-back Mendy.

The French ace injured his knee during a tackle on Andros Townsend during last Saturday's 5-0 win over Crystal Palace.

The defender limped off after 29 minutes and initial tests on his knee were inconclusive despite heavy swelling.

ESPN now report that Mendy is heading to Barcelona to visit renowned specialist Dr. Ramon Cugat.

Pep Guardiola has often sent his stars to see Cugat and has worked with the doctor since his time at Barca.

City’s medical team had been optimistic that Mendy had only sustained an impact injury and not anything more serious.

But there are now fears that the 23-year-old could have suffered ligament damage.

Any long-term injury would be a major blow to Guardiola and co, especially with games against Chelsea, Stoke and Napoli on the horizon.

Mendy has been superb for City since moving to the Etihad from Monaco for £52m in July.

He excelled in their recent big wins over Liverpool and Watford and Guardiola will hope his injury proves to be only minor.
