Arsene Wenger has offered a insight into Arsenal’s ‘hectic’ end to the summer transfer window.

The Gunners wanted to sign Monaco’s Thomas Lemar throughout the summer and made a last ditch £92m bid for him on deadline day.

Wenger has now explained what happened from Arsenal’s point of view despite not referencing Lemar directly.

He said: “What happens is that you’re contacted 48 hours before the end of the transfer window and someone say, ‘Are you still interested in this player?’

"You worked on that deal for three months, they closed the door and then suddenly they open it up again with two days to go. It’s all rushed decisions and very hectic in the last week.

"Once you go into the games as well, you don’t know if the players are speaking to their agents on the afternoon of the game or to other clubs, so they don’t focus on the game. It’s not right how it was."

Wenger has also delivered some good news on Arsenal star Santi Cazorla as he continues his injury comeback.

The French boss said: “The first signs are positive. But still he has not played for one and a half years.

“It won't be before Christmas. He is not in full training yet, he needs a few games with the reserve team.

“So I think if all goes well, it will be after Christmas.”

Arsenal legend Martin Keown claims Wenger can no longer trust Mesut Ozil.

Speaking before the Gunners’ 2-0 win over West Brom last night, Keown said: “He's not playing tonight because the gaffer really can't trust him anymore.

“I think it's a huge story that Ozil doesn't play tonight.

“If you look at their pre-seasons, Ozil wasn't in the German squad in the summer, he came back on the very first day of pre-season, and didn't then start the season, there was a bit of suspicion around him.

“Last year he went missing for a couple of months and I think that's his tactic in terms of getting away from the football club.”
