Despite Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho all starting last night, the Reds only managed to score one goal against Spartak Moscow in the 1-1 draw.

And they’ve had similar problems in front of goal in the Premier League – managing just six goals in six games.

Some fans have pointed to a specific moment in yesterday’s match to highlight just how much Liverpool are struggling going forward.

Firmino managed to pick up a ball and break on a counter-attack, with Jordan Henderson to his right, Salah to his left and Mane in front.

There were only two Spartak defenders back – with the rest of the team having moved up for a corner moments earlier.

The Brazilian opted to pass to the England international who quickly fired in a dangerous first-time cross.

Mane failed to make contact but he did take the Russian side’s goalkeeper out of the equation – leaving Salah with an open goal.

But – even though it was from a tight angle – the Egyptian failed to find the back of the net and the counter-attack that looked destined for a goal ended up as nothing more than a goal-kick.

It wasn’t long before Reds fans voiced their anger at the failure to score.

“Liverpool are the only team in the world who break 4 v 2 and you just know they're not going to score,” one commented.

Another wrote: “Only Liverpool could flop a 4 v 2 situation.”

And added: “That Liverpool 4-on-2 break. How the hell do you mess that up?”
