Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has no concerns about BATE Borisov’s past problems with racism

And he will send his young players into the Borisov Arena tonight with the message that they have 20 minutes to prove they have an Arsenal future.

Part of the 13,000-capacity stadium was ordered closed in November 2014 by UEFA after Shaktar Donetsk’s Brazilian striker Adriano accused the fans of “an ugly act”, adding that he “heard rude abuse...racist ones.”

Wenger accepts tonight’s Group H Europa League match will be challenging to say the least but is confident UEFA are on top of the racism issue.

“Look, no I don’t have any preconceived ideas,” he said.

“I hope that will not happen and UEFA has always been very strong to deal with that.

“BATE have a new stadium, they have a good crowd, so certainly it will be very loud.

“When you play at Arsenal, at a young age, it’s a good test for a young player. We will certainly have first knowledge of that tomorrow night.”

BATE have not been beaten at home in Europe since Barcelona won here 2-0 eight games ago.

And Wenger has travelled without most of his main stars, including Alexandre Lacazette, Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Laurent Koscielny, Petr Cech, Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac.

Although his starting line-up will be largely recognisable, the places on the bench will be taken up by players looking for a rare chance to prove themselves.

Wenger added: “Vlad Dragomir, for example, is a Romanian boy who was with us for a few years.

“He’s a No.10, Jack Wilshere-style, left-footed, a creative player.

“This is the kind of job you do not get 10 opportunities to play for Arsenal.

“When you get it, even if they only get 20 minutes, you have to convince people you have the qualities to do it and you have the courage to play and show your qualities.

“There is always an uncertainty. We know in training, you see in training that the player has the quality.

“Yes, he is here because he has the qualities. After, to show it during competition is something different. And in my experience you only discover that during the competition.”
