That is the view of pundit and former Everton centre-back Martin Keown.

Keown was speaking at half-time of the Europa League 2-2 draw between Ronald Koeman’s side and Apollon Limassol this evening.

Everton were expected to make a bold bid for Champions League qualification this year after spending in excess of £100m in the summer.

However, they find themselves down in 14th, with seven points from their opening six games.

They have also struggled in Europe, with a lack of goals largely down to the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United.

And Keown says the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City all have players with pace in abundance.

But admits that is something Everton are without.

“Lack of pace,” Keown said on BT Sport as to why they were struggling.

“If you compare Everton these days to the likes of Man City and Liverpool, (Sadio) Mane and (Mohamed) Salah and (Eden) Hazard and (Alvaro) Morata, Lukaku and (Romelu) Rashford.

“Pace, and Everton haven’t got it at the moment.

“I’m struggling to see who the front player is who can receive the ball.

“(Gylfi) Sigurdsson and (Wayne) Rooney are good players but they haven’t got pace.”

Everton take on Burnley in the Premier League this Sunday.
