Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp doesn't think he needs one star striker

Manchester United have Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea have Alvaro Morata and Tottenham have Harry Kane.

But Klopp has zero regrets about not searching for a striker in the summer transfer window despite his side missing a host of chances against Spartak Moscow in their midweek Champions League draw.

Instead the Kop boss is happy with the fearsome foursome of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino all chipping in.

Klopp said: “If there is a striker out there which is better than ours or fits better than ours, why shouldn’t we do it? We are not crazy.

“I’m really happy. We have Roberto Firmino, maybe not 25 goals but ask anyone in the Premier League and they will say, ‘What a player’.

“We have Daniel Sturridge. We all know about his potential. Now he’s fit, so hopefully we can use it. And then everyone will ask for a fit Daniel Sturridge and want to have him.

“That we don’t score at this moment is not the fault of one player. Yes, maybe Harry Kane would have scored one or two of the chances we had, probably yes.

“But he missed chances in other games in other moments of his career. So it’s not always about asking for other players. It’s to work with what you have and that’s what we’re doing.

“We had other things we felt we needed to do first. For us, the market was not really there.

“You cannot buy just because you think you will not score enough. We have enough chances and we will score.

“Our fit is good enough to make a lot of it. I don’t think anyone thinks they have the perfect fit, but we have a very good fit to make the best of it and that’s what we’re trying to do.”

While Klopp is happy about his forwards, ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Newcastle, he is not impressed at the likely rescheduling of the side’s visit to Arsenal on Christmas Eve.

The Liverpool boss called for “common sense” about the festive fixture.

Klopp’s family have their main celebration on December 24 but is more concerned with the plight of travelling fans and another pile-up of games in late December.

He said: “These decisions don’t need the managers in, they don’t need the executives in, what they need is common sense. That’s the only thing they need.

“That is just a game on a day when nobody asked for football. The other thing is four games in nine days, that’s what everybody has to think about.

“I knew before I came here there would be a few intense fixtures but to protect the game to be at the highest quality, you need to use common sense.”
