Philippe Coutinho’s blockbuster fired the away side into a deserved 29th minute lead, only for Joselu to equalise for Newcastle against the run of play.

Liverpool missed a hatful of chances once again, their lack of cutting edge dropping them to seventh in the table.

Next up for Liverpool is the visit of Manchester United and the German knows they will have to be more ruthless if they are to topple Jose Mourinho’s high flyers.

He warned: “In most of our games, our opponent have needed just a few chances to score and we need a lot more. That has happened too often in the last few weeks.

“We have a real problem and we have to do better in our next game otherwise we will not get a point.”

After watching his side fail to put Newcastle to the sword, Klopp added: “I am disappointed and frustrated. We have got a point but it feels like we have lost.

“We had many chances. They got one chance and scored. That doesn’t feel too fair. If you don’t help yourself no one else help you.”

But Klopp insists it’s far too early to write Liverpool off and claims he’s not worried about a run of just one win in seven games.

“Today feels not too cool,” he said. “We were the better team again, we were in very promising situations and we don’t score.

“That, of course, is a problem but it will not stay like this. I am long enough in football to know one day, when the knot opens, we will score more goals. That is pretty likely.

“We are in a quite good shape and in a quite good situation. As long as we do it like this I am not concerned.”

Toon boss Rafa Benitez declared himself satisfied with a draw against his former club.

“A point at home isn’t the best, but against a team like Liverpool, you have to be happy,” he said.

“The lads did a great job and maybe with a bit more composure on the ball, we could have scored another goal.”
