Marcus Rashford wants to now create his own identity at Manchester United and with England

Manchester United’s star teenager is still developing his football at Old Trafford.

But he has already made his mark at the top level and established himself as a regular under Jose Mourinho and as an England international.

While Rashford wants his own identity, he admits certain players have influenced him during his early years.

Ex-United forward Cristiano Ronaldo, Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi and Brazil legend Ronaldo have played their part.

Former Red Devils team-mate Wayne Rooney was also listed as an influence by United’s academy product.

Rashford told The Independent: “You try to, especially when you're young, until you find your own identity.

“You try to emulate those players a lot and they're the things that make you into the player you are.

“Ronaldo, Messi, Rooney, Neymar - everyone knows good football when you see it and that's what I like to watch as well.

“Brazilian Ronaldo has had the biggest World Cups performances, I'd say. And his were among the most enjoyable to watch.

“There were a lot of top players who performed in the World Cup and went to another level.

Marcus Rashford highighted Ronaldo's influence at international level with Brazil

“Teams defend a lot more now as a unit rather than man to man. There's different ways to take people on and different things you have to watch against different teams. It's hard to take a specific aspect but you can take things like mentality or characteristics.”

On Ronaldo and his free-kicks, Rashford added: “No, it's actually a different technique. I can do it like he does it but I haven't done it yet.”

Rashford is now away on international duty and will hope to add to his England goal tally of two so far.

For Manchester United, the fan-favourite has started the season in top form with five strikes in all competitions.

He'll be back in club action on October 14 when United tackle fierce rivals Liverpool.
